Opti-Fi Chosen to Provide Wi-Fi Service at Billings Logan International Airport
Annapolis, Maryland, July 13, 2006—Passengers awaiting flights at Billings-Logan International Airport in Billings, MT can now read and send e-mail, access business documents online or simply surf the Internet with their wireless-enabled laptops, PDAs and other devices, thanks to a new Wi-Fi network provided by Opti-Fi Networks SM.
“We are pleased to offer this new wireless access to the travelers of Billings, so they can make the most of their time here,” stated Kevin Ploehn, Business Manager of the City of Billings Logan Airport. “Wireless Internet in our airport is just another way that the city's Airport is reaching out to the traveling public.”
Opti-Fi built the 802.11 network as a dual wireless solution so airport managers and onsite business owners can also use the Wi-Fi wireless network to access business applications over a secure private wireless network. Meanwhile, passengers in any terminal area can use their PDA's or laptops to download e-mail from their office PC, investigate Web sites about their destination, or simply entertain themselves online.
At the same time, airport staff and owners of onsite businesses can use Opti-Fi’s 802.11 network to transmit e-messages, store and retrieve documents from a central server at the airport and access other real-time data to keep operations running smoothly. Opti-Fi currently has multiple rental car agencies using this service at several of their locations including Edmonton International Airport.
“Opti-Fi is very excited to be awarded this contract by Billings,” stated George Sutton, Opti-Fi CEO. “We look forward to providing convenient and reliable 802.11 b/g wireless access for the public as well as private network capability that will keep Billings on the leading edge of communications technology.”
Billings Logan International, which serves the largest city in Montana, is undergoing other improvements. A new air traffic control tower on the west side of the airport will soon be up and running, as will a new Terminal Radar Approach and Control (TRACON) building. More than 190,000 passengers flew out of the airport in the first six months of 2006 — and the annual passenger numbers are expected to increase.
